A Very Dutch Weekend...

The other day I was sitting at work when my email chimed.  I look at the sender....my Mom.  Strangely, it was not a "forward" type email (yes mom, that is mostly what you send me).  The subject is one word..."blog". My  mother, being the amazing person she is, writes me this little email reminding me of my last blog post. She totally calls me out on not blogging on a continuous basis as I stated I should do as a New Years Resolution. Thank you mom, you have always been there for us and helped us when we had been led astray from the things we aspire to do. So, with that said, what I really need to do is MAKE the time to write more often. Today, while on vacation, I am doing just that.

Adam and I have been so excited about this weekend.  For the longest time I have wanted to bring Adam to Leavenworth, WA to just get away from the big city of Portland.  I had not been there since I was just a child, but I remember thinking how fun it was. One day, I saw a  Groupon for a two night stay in Leavenworth. I immediately sent Adam a text to check Groupon and probably purchase the deal.  It's a really good thing he did because it sold out in a matter of hours! We were psyched! We decided to book our reservation as soon as possible. We ended up getting a reservation for Sunday night and Monday night.  We figured since it was such a long drive for us to get to Leavenworth that we would see about getting a room at another hotel for Saturday night. We thought about going up Friday, but I couldn't stand the thought of being away from Rogue for that long. It would be our first real trip away from him and I wasn't sure how he would do.  I know what you are all thinking right now and I am comfortable admitting that I act as though my furry child is a real child.

We got to Leavenworth on Saturday afternoon, checked into our less than classy hotel for $45 per night and hit the town! Okay, well it's not a very big town and we were super hungry. We did a loop through the town to check out our options and landed on Gustav's for dinner. It was pretty good, but we were sure we were going to experience better.  After dinner we walked through the crowded downtown streets with Christmas lights still up and Polka music playing as we strolled the streets. We decided we would go to a brew house in town called Icicle Brew House. OH MY GOSH! It was INCREDIBLE! the atmosphere was pretty sweet, but the beer is amazing! We shared a flight and then I drank a pint of my favorite while Adam ate more food....shocking.  We also purchased a growler of our favorite brew and made our way back to the hotel, a little tipsy.  A bit later, we went out to a cabin where some friends were staying and played some card games. It was more fun that we had anticipated!  We came back to the hotel and crashed! We were up WAY past our usual bedtime and we were beat!

Sunday morning came and we had slept in until 7:30AM! WOW! It felt good! I didn't even get out of bed until 8! It was awesome! I got most of our things packed up and we went down for our free continental breakfast....not impressive at all. Folgers was the coffee of choice; Dad, you would have been in heaven.  I left breakfast still hungry and in need of an actual cup of coffee. We got back to the room, hung out for a bit then headed out. We parked downtown and walked to this really cute little place called The Ginger Bread Factory. It is adorable!  I finally got a cup of coffee and we headed out.

We met up the Josh and Amy Breda as well as a few others and walked around a couple shops. We went to a Braut place called Munchen Haus. Adam and I shared a braut....an amazing braut that is and loaded it up with Dutch style sauerkraut served in a cauldron and the choice of literally 20 different sauces. Delicious!

Soon after, we parted ways with our friends and checked into our hotel. Our hotel is adorable! We have a 2 bedroom suite with a living room. We love it! We will be staying here again sometime! If any of you come to Leavenworth, The Adventure Inn is well worth the money! We love it!

The rest of our trip was just so relaxing! Adam spend some time just walking and taking pictures while I strolled the cute little shops. The area around us was absolutely breathtaking! I couldn't help but post some one the many photos Adam took on his walk.
This was the little river that ran through a park near our hotel. It has a little island a ways down a path that Adam took a little snowy adventure to.

Our adventure continued into the next day, Valentines Day. We were getting ready to head back to Portland and Adam and I wanted to take a little walk together before we left. He took me to a place that he had found on his walk the day before and it was so nice to stroll through the snowy trails and snuggle up close since it was so cold. We are so excited to return to Leavenworth again and spend more time hiking around and, of course, drinking the most amazing IPA in the world.

Happy Valentines Day to us!  We started heading back and when we got near Biggs, Adam asked if we could make a stop at Stonehenge. Although it didn't interest me,  I said sure. The weather was beautiful. I honestly couldn't imagine a better way to spend Valentines Day than with my incredible husband!

I can't wait to see where our next adventure takes us!

  1. I agree with your mom- need to blog more. Since we live to far away and never see one another it's the only way I get to catch up with you! Love to you, Adam and that precious Rouge!
